Lanzarote

Lanzarote benefits from year-round sunshine and the contrasting colours of whitewashed towns and purple volcanic rock.  It is a beautiful place to enjoy a family holiday.

Some of the finest beaches in the Canaries can be found on Lanzarote with the 3-mile golden beach at Puerto del Carmen attracting many visitors.  This resort, around 30 minutes transfer time from the airport, becomes vibrant with local fiestas during July and August.  The sea is usually calm and with gently sloping beaches it is an excellent family resort with a range of cuisine available around the harbour.

Timanfaya, LanzaroteThe former fishing port of Playa Blanca has a pretty promenade and harbour, packed with great places to eat and soak up the relaxed atmosphere, around 35 minutes from the airport.  There are three pleasing beaches to choose from and a trip to Playas de Papagayo beach is very rewarding.  Playa Blanca harbour provides ferry services to Fuerteventura for those who fancy trying a different part of the Canaries experience!

Costa Teguise makes up the trio of resorts and is the closest in terms of airport transfer time.  This is an exciting, purpose-built resort suited to those who like sports and adventure, especially those who surf as the bay is usually subjected to a breeze.

Around Lanzarote, make sure you head for the Timanfaya National Park, with its lunar-esque volcanic landscape and incredible subterranean heat.  Take a camel safari to explore the area without expending too much energy in the sun!
